Hilton Head Island offers the finest ports of call on the southeastern coast in combination with its many resort luxuries. Along the 244 miles from Charleston, South Carolina to Florida's state line, the ICW abandons the common canals and dredged cuts to wind its way across wide river mouths, through spectacular sounds, and behind and across coastal inlets. All are quite navigable and offer magnificent views of the Hilton Head and Lowcountry environment. Charleston is a half-day cruise away making for a long weekend excursion. Whereas ports in Georgia make for a fun week of cruising, you can also plan longer boating trips to the Florida Keys and beyond. These waterways are rich in natural beauty and wildlife. You will see porpoises playing alongside, in the bow wave or even behind shrimp boats during seasonal harvesting.
